We succeeded in taking that picture [from deep space], and, if you look at it, you see a dot. That’s here. That’s home. That’s us. On it, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever lived, lived out their lives. The aggregate of all our joys and sufferings, thousands of confident religions, ideologies and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilizations, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every hopeful child, every mother and father, every inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every superstar, every supreme leader, every saint and sinner in the history of our species, lived there on a mote of dust, suspended in a sunbeam.

Went to a pretty awesome bar last night. And when I say pretty awesome, I mean REALLY awesome. It’s a concept bar, with the concept based on the principles of a stock market. Prices fluctuate with demand (they’re udated every 3 minutes), so the price of a drink rises with it’s popularity. So, the more Jack Daniels I drank, the more expensive it became (damnit), while the prices of other drinks stayed the same or lowered throughout the night. It made the whole experience a bit more dynamic, and was a good lesson in supply and demand. I think every economics 101 class should take a field trip to Le Merval.
A-Maz-ing.

My commitment to the country and to a solution-based, love-fueled politics is pretty sturdy. At no point did I let go of any of that. I had thousands of defeats and only one victory. The victory was this: I’m not mad at anybody, I don’t hate anybody. I’m still committed to solving these problems from a good place in my own heart.
Van Jones in what he describes as possibly his ”last interview about the past.” There are few people that have inspired me as an ideas person, an optimist and an American more than Van Jones. I was heartbroken when he resigned from the Obama Administration, but will continue to follow his development and look up to him as an exemplary businessman, activist and believer.

a few weeks ago i awoke to a construction crew tearing the cobblestones up from our quiet little street. i’m pretty sure they didn’t do anything productive, as they left once they were done digging, taking the cobblestones with them and leaving gaping holes in the middle of the street. a few flat tires and twisted ankles later, some helpful neighbors decided to take the matter into their own hands, and filled the holes with scavenged bricks. i like my street even better now.
i just hope there aren’t huge holes in someone’s brick wall now…
